Love & Freedom

One of my best friends has been telling me that she envies some friends who found their life partners. It is a normal thing for us, people with disabilities to envy. We envy able people for many things. Their education background, family, career and it is very normal for able people to find a partner and get married.
In my previous article, I wrote about appreciating what I've got in my life. While enjoying what I've got in my moderate life, I still demand lots of thing. The article sounds good enough! Now, what is the most important for a person with disabilities? A simple word "Freedom".
We've usually heard about neglected and abused children with disabilities or over-protective against children with disabilities. Child abused is wrong and, of course, is a crime. How about over protective? I've been being protected by my parents. I didn't enjoy much during my childhood. It was impossible for me to join school activities such as camping and hiking.
Why my parents are being so protective? It might be the barrier and public discrimination. We, people with disabilities have lots of barrier. Barriers come from public discrimination, I can say that!
Public always view us as less abilities and power people. These may prevent people with disabilities from learning things and get proper education in schools. When a child not able to get the proper education, it is impossible for the child to get a better job when she or he grows up. "Discrimination of a teacher may prevent a student to get a better future.
"Let's talk about an interesting part now. That is romance! I mentioned about my best friend who envies some friends who found their life partners. Why she feels this way? As a human being, she needs a life partner. As a lady with disabilities, she wishes to have a man who can accept for who she is. Unfortunately, she is still single. Most of us also have same wish as her; find our true love.
Discrimination and barrier stopping people to get know us. Example, some of us not able to go for a date by ourselves; we need helpers or assistants. Why we need helper? Over protective parents, inadequate of disabled-friendly in public places and public discrimination are the main reasons. Some of us are lucky enough to have true love but some are still hoping. It is so amazing to see people with disabilities found the love, anyhow. Eventually it makes lots of people with disabilities feel envy.
PS: I am sure we would find our true love if there are no barrier and discrimination.
